About Ethos Labs
We build the training
we wish existed.
Ethos Labs is an independent research and training lab at the intersection of space and cybersecurity. We work on the whole space segment — the mission operations center, the RF link, the spacecraft bus, and the payload — and we teach the people whose job it is to keep all four honest.
Why this lab exists
Space and cybersecurity used to be two separate professions that occasionally sent each other emails. The launch cost curve broke that arrangement — small-sats put real spacecraft in the hands of universities, startups, and hobbyists, and every one of those spacecraft has a radio, a flight computer, and an attacker who noticed.
The training industry did not keep up. Aerospace curricula assume nobody's listening. Security curricula assume everything runs on Linux. The people who understand both sides — how a command uplink is encoded, how ground-station software decodes it, how a bus responds to malformed telemetry — are rare, and they mostly learned the hard way.
Ethos Labs exists to make that path shorter. We publish what we know, build the labs and hardware that let others practice, and teach the course we wish we could have taken.
How we work
- 01 Hardware in the loop.
Every lab uses real radios, real ground software, and real spacecraft interfaces. If a student can't put hands on it and break it, we don't teach it.
- 02 End-to-end scope.
Ground segment, link segment, space segment, user segment. The interesting problems live at the seams — where an assumption on one side fails to survive the other.
- 03 Adversary emulation, not slide decks.
Attackers don't read your architecture diagrams. Our labs simulate what actually happens: unexpected inputs, replayed frames, misconfigured ground stations, insider-level access.
- 04 Open where we can be.
Our workshops are free to access. Research writeups, hardware designs, and lab code go on GitHub as they mature. Paid training funds the work; the work belongs to the field.
